We, the SAHS Peer Helpers, seek to support, listen and encourage the student body through personal relationships. This confidential network is dedicated to positively influencing the school culture and community.

The Peer Helper program...
provides a select group of students with accurate information, the skills to help others more effectively, and places/resources to turn to when in need. Our Peer Helpers are dedicated to normalizing the stigma surrounding mental health and simply connecting with their peers in non-threatening interactions.

What is the SAHS Peer Helper Program?

SAHS Peer Helpers are trained to work with classmates on both the little and big challenges they face:

Academic Stress
Anxiety
Bullying
Conflict resolution
Depression

LGBTQ concerns
Loss (separation, divorce, death)
Racism
Relationship issues
Self-image

Struggling to cope with school, life, and social demand?

How do I contact a peer helper?

Contacting the SAHS Peer Helpers:

During the school year and summertime, students may connect with an SAHS Peer Helper by sending an email or a DM via Instagram to request to have in-person, text, email, or phone conversation.

At this time, students are not able to meet formally with the Peer Helpers during the school day, but may talk to them via email, text, phone call, or informally in the halls, during lunch, or at appropriate times during class.

How do I become a Peer Helper?

How to become an SAHS Peer Helper:

SAHS Peer Helpers are nominated by the SAHS student body and staff during the Fall, and candidates will after be contacted for an interview. The program is not opt-in based. About 25 students are chosen between grades 9-12 to serve as peer helpers and reapply to be part of the program each year.
