Academic Recognition
Stillwater Area High School students qualify to receive academic recognition for achieving a 3.750 GPA or grade point average, weighted and unweighted. Students enrolled in academic courses qualify to receive an academic letter certificate as verified by Skyward transcript. A ceremony is held in the fall of the year to present the lettering certificate.

Qualified students may also purchase an academic chenille letter in the activities office for a fee. Qualifying students may also opt to purchase the lamp of learning symbol and other patches for purchase in activities office.

Additionally, students who maintain the following cumulative GPA are given the following at the rehearsal prior to graduation.

3.750 or above receive sash prior to graduation ceremony
3.500 – 3.749 receive a white cord prior to graduation ceremony
3.000 – 3.499 receive a gold cord prior to graduation ceremony

This recognition reflects upon a student’s abilities and it is a distinct honor to receive a Stillwater Area High School academic letter. Therefore, administration and counselors support that students in grades 10-12 shall earn the Stillwater Area High School academic letter certificate by having a GPA of 3.75 on transcript for their previous year in District 834. It is not cumulative but calculated yearly. We are aware that the letter will be granted for grade ten students who are receiving the merits from their academic record in grade 9.

Activity Lettering
Activity letters are given to students for their performance, achievement, responsibility and service to school. Time spent in an activity is not sufficient for attaining an activity letter as many other expectations apply. Students may receive additional information from their coach or advisor or by contacting the Activities Office.

National Honor Society
National Honor Society recognizes students who have demonstrated excellence in four areas: scholarship, service, leadership, and character. All juniors and seniors with a qualifying grade point average are sent a letter inviting them to submit to the selection committee evidence of their service, leadership, and character.

In addition to the student’s grades and the information submitted by the student, the selection committee also considers information gathered from faculty and administrators. The formal induction is held during the spring, and the new members participate in school and community service activities. Students must submit an application in order to be considered.
