Students focus on their "game plan" after high school
SAHS students spent the day on Wednesday getting serious about planning their future. More than 500 juniors and seniors participated in the Game Day event which focused on personalizing their post-high school plans whether that involves college, career or military. They had many unique opportunities, including:
-
Field trips to local colleges and universities
-
Meetings with admissions representatives at SAHS
-
Career tours of local businesses within the community
-
Meetings with representatives from all 4 branches of the Military
-
College 101 planning workshop
-
Virtual tours of midwest colleges and universities
-
Asynchronous sessions on everything from scholarships and financial aid to trades and manufacturing careers and GAP year.
Ninth grade students got an introduction to their personalized learning plans, including a personalized aptitude-based college and career assessment called YouScience which helps students discover their aptitudes, interests and matches them to best-fit careers.
Tenth and eleventh grade students were able to practice preparing for college entrance exams by participating in the Pre-ACT and PSAT tests. They also had an opportunity to complete a career search tool as part of their personalized learning plan.
During these sessions, students were able to explore, ask questions, and immerse themselves in post-secondary exploration. Students shared some take-aways from their experiences. One student said Game Day “helped me gain connections and future resources.” Another student commented, “I love how we got to see the dorms and how living here would look like. It was a 10/10 experience.”
