Solar Panels Coming to More Stillwater Schools
STILLWATER, Minn. -- Feb. 26, 2025 -- Stillwater Area Public Schools is expanding its solar energy use. Solar panels are currently being installed at Stillwater Area High School. Last fall, Brookview Elementary added solar panels, increasing the district’s use of renewable energy. The first district building to incorporate solar power was the Early Childhood Family Center, which had panels installed when it was built in 2012.
Solar panels are planned to be installed on the two new elementary schools being built in Bayport and Lake Elmo after they are completed, as the district plans continued participation in a state program that assists with the cost of installation. In addition, as the district replaces aging roofs on existing schools, solar may be added when feasible.
“This is a win-win for our district,” said Superintendent Mike Funk. “Not only will solar energy help us save money in the long run, but it’s also the right thing to do for the environment. By investing in renewable energy, we’re setting a positive example for our students and helping to create a more sustainable future.”
Solar energy not only helps lower energy costs but also aligns with broader efforts to modernize school infrastructure. These projects will provide lasting benefits for students and the community for years to come.
