Celebrating Dr. King: Stillwater Students Shine at MLK Breakfast

Stillwater Area High School students embraced the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by participating in Stillwater's annual MLK Day Breakfast. Sponsored by the Stillwater Human Rights Commission, the event themed "Leading Onward" served as a platform for student engagement and community dialogue.

A highlight of the breakfast was the presentation by students involved in Stillwater's innovative "Summer Success" program. They spoke about the “Grow Your Own” initiative aimed at cultivating future educators. These future leaders shared their experiences teaching elementary-aged children, emphasizing not only their successes but also the challenges they faced and lessons learned. Their impactful testimony showcased the program's potential and inspired attendees.

Beyond the presentations, Stillwater students demonstrated their commitment to service and community throughout the breakfast. Members of the Student Leadership Council, National Honor Society, and Key Club volunteered in various capacities, from welcoming guests and promoting a fundraiser for the United Negro College Fund to facilitating discussions and cleaning up afterwards.

This event showcased the commitment of Stillwater Area High School students to Dr. King's legacy of service, leadership, and community building. Their participation highlighted both the academic potential of Stillwater's "Grow Your Own" initiative and their desire for a more equitable and inclusive future.
